Highlands downs McGuffey in non-conference play
CLAYSVILLE — Highlands outscored McGuffey by 21 points in the second and third quarters en route to a 47-23 victory in non-conference play on Friday at McGuffey.
The Highlanders (0-8) had a 3-0 lead in the first quarter after Nate Kler kicked a 30-yard field goal.
The Golden Rams (4-4) scored the next 13 points courtesy of Darius Cherry’s 76-yard run and Montrell Johnson’s 32-yard interception return for a score.
Logan Carlisle’s 1-yard run and Kler’s kick cut the home team’s deficit to 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Highlands took a 21-10 lead into halftime and added two more touchdowns in the third for a 34-10 advantage heading into the fourth period.
Dan Furmanek (2 yards) and Levi Shaffer (49 yards) scored for McGuffey in the fourth quarter.
