Washington rallies Serra Catholic past Burgettstown
BURGETTSTOWN – De’ron Washington caught two touchdown passes in the first half and ran for two scores in the second half, leading Serra Catholic to a 33-25 win over Burgettstown on Friday in the Class A Black Hills Conference.
Washington caught scoring passes of 74 and 22 yards from Quadir Stribling, the latter cutting Burgettstown’s lead to 22-20 late in the first half.
In the second half, Washington had a three-yard TD run that put Serra (2-3, 3-6) up 26-22. His one-yard score gave the Eagles a 33-22 edge with 10:41 to play.
Stribling threw a 57-yard TD to Marcus Holt to open the scoring, but Burgettstown’s Mike Carozza returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards to make it 7-7. Sam Elich intercepted a Stribling pass and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown that gave the Blue Devils a 14-7 lead.
Travis Coles had an 18-yard TD run that gave Burgettstown (0-5, 1-7) a 22-13 lead. Colton County kicked a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
