Bishop Canevin’s offense too much for Monessen
Bishop Canevin shook off its first Class A Black Hills Conference setback to defeat Monessen, 56-20, on Saturday at Dormont Stadium.
The Crusaders (4-1, 6-2) had a defensive score when Lamier Wade recovered a fumble for a touchdown and Leo Shorthouse made the first of seven PATs for a 7-0 lead.
Bishop Canevin quarterback Kole Olszewski ran in a keeper from one yard out for a 14-point advantage before the Greyhounds (3-2, 7-2) got into the end zone when Rodney Johnson pulled in a 10-yard touchdown reception from Dennis Hawkins to cut the deficit to 14-8 in the second quarter.
The Crusaders got the touchdown back in quick fashion, as Myontae Mott returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and a 21-8 lead. Mott scored on a one-yard run and Bishop Canevin had a 28-8 halftime advantage.
The Crusaders outscored Monessen, 16-6, in the third quarter, and 14-6 in the fourth.
TyVaughn Kershaw had touchdown runs of 39 and 12 yards for the Greyhounds in the second half.
