Big Macs eliminated from playoff contention
PITTSBURGH — Canon-McMillan hung tough for the first quarter before Central Catholic started to flex its muscles in a 38-13 victory on Friday night in Class 6A Quad County Conference play at Carnegie Mellon University.
With the loss, the Big Macs (2-4, 3-7) were eliminated from playoff contention.
The Vikings (6-0, 8-2) got on the scoreboard with 7:42 left in the second quarter on Billy Lech’s 45-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.
Jy’Aire Walls’ 46-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Gomphers with 6:14 remaining in the second extended Central Catholic’s advantage to 10-0 at 6:14 of the second.
Elijah Faulkner’s four-yard touchdown run came with 23 seconds left before the half and the Vikings held a 17-0 lead.
Gophers’ 58-yard touchdown reception put the home team ahead, 24-0, with 11:12 left in the third period.
Faulkner’s 2-yard run and Xavier Thomas’ 58-yard punt return put Central Catholic up 38-0 and a running clock was in use the rest of the game.
Alijah Brown got Canon-McMillan on the scoreboard when he scored form one-yard out and Matthew Hirsch pulled in a 27-yard touchdown reception from Mason Orsini and Zach Barzd made the extra point.
Big Macs quarterback Ty Jansma was 17 of 30 for 169 yards.
