Moon shuts down South Fayette
Moon built a 21-point lead en route to a 28-7 victory over South Fayette on Friday in Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference play at Moon.
The Tigers (2-3, 5-4) had a 7-0 lead at halftime on Savario Vandetti’s 43-yard touchdown reception from Andrew Cross at 6:39 of the second quarter. Evan Senkevich made his first of four PATs.
Paul Bronaugh (54 yards) and Braeden Short (59 yards) had back-to-back touchdowns 67 seconds apart in the third quarter for a 21-0 advantage.
The Lions (1-4, 6-4) got on the scoreboard when Ben Cavenaugh caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Drew Welhorsky and Luke Gillen kicked the extra point at 11:17 of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 21-7.
Moon’s Nicholas Prozzoly closed out the scoring on a 25-yard run with 4:04 remaining.
Welhorsky was 11 of 26 for 124 yards and rushed for 49 yards on 17 carries.
