South Fayette holds off Canon-Mac
McDONALD – Drew Welhorsky ran for one touchdown and passed for another as South Fayette remained undefeated with a 13-10 victory over visiting Canon-McMillan in non-conference game Friday.
Welhosrky opened the scoring with a six-yard scamper early in the second quarter.
Canon-McMillan (0-3) drove inside the South Fayette five-yard line late in the first half but settled for a 27-yard field goal that cut the Lions’ lead to 6-3 with 24 seconds left in the first half.
Welhorsky gave Southy Fayette (3-0) a 10-point lead with his 32-yard pass to Ben Cavenaugh late in the third quarter.
Canon-McMillan made a late charge as Ty Jansma threw a four-yard TD pass to Ethan Campoli with 1:34 remaining to make it 13-10. It was only the second touchdown South Fayette has surrendered this season.
South Fayette then recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.
Jansma completed 17 of 28 passes for 157 yards. Evan Morris rushed for 70 yards on 16 carries for the Big Macs.
Welhorsky completed 11 of 17 passes for 152 yards.
