Bentworth holds off Beth-Center, 45-32
FREDERICKTOWN – Bentworth had a 30-point halftime lead and held off a furious Beth-Center rally for a 45-32 victory in Class A Tri-County South play Friday night.
The Bearcats (1-1, 3-2) extended their advantage to 38-8 on back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns as the first half expired.
The Bulldogs (0-2, 0-4) cut the deficit to 38-14 on touchdown runs from Deasean Whipkey and Homer Headlee with 6:18 left in the third quarter.
Bentworth put the game away when Lucas Burt took a wide receiver screen from Ty Watson 54 yards into the end zone with 6:13 left in the third quarter.
Whipkey scored his third touchdown on a 66-yard run with 17 seconds remaining.
Burt pulled in a 30-yard touchdown reception from Watson in the first half and Ben Hays scored on a four-yard run for the Bearcats.
Preston Jaquay added a 38-yard touchdown run for the visitors.
