California rolls to 40-0 win
CALIFORNIA – California scored on its first possession and never looked back in a 40-0 victory over Avella on Friday night in Class A Tri-County South Conference play.
The Trojans’ Lee Qualk reached the end zone on a seven-yard run and a 6-0 lead with 8:46 left in the first quarter.
Qualk added a second touchdown on a 41-yard run and Adin Keyes took a pass from Logan Hartley 13 yards for a score and a 20-0 lead at 7:45 of the second period.
Malachi Peak set up the Trojans’ fourth touchdown on a 43-yard run to Avella’s five-yard line. Vinny Panzella caught an eight-yard pass for a score for a 26-0 advantage with 1:21 left in the second quarter before Qualk took a screen pass from Hartley 25 yards into the end zone and Peak ran in the two-point conversion for a 34-0 halftime lead.
Peak’s eight-yard touchdown run with 3:34 left in the third quarter extended California’s advantage to 40-0.
The Trojans improved to 2-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall while the Eagles fell to 0-2 in TCS action and 1-4 overall.
