West Greene downs Mapletown in TCS action

MAPLETOWN — Brock Evans returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and Mapletown had an eight-point lead after the first quarter, but West Greene came alive in the second for a 37-8 win on Friday in Class A Tri-County South play at Mapletown.

Cameryn Shaffer had a safety when he tackled Pioneers quarterback Lane Allison in the end zone before West Greene (2-0, 2-3) got going.

Allison threw an 81-yard touchdown pass to Parker Burns and Colin Whyte ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-8 game with 8:41 left in the second quarter.

Allison scored on runs of 25 and 5 yards and Hayden Hamilton made one of his three PATs for a 21-8 halftime advantage.

Whyte tackled Colton Spitznogle in the end zone for a safety and scored on a one-yard run for a 30-8 lead after three quarters. Hamilton had a 25-yard touchdown run with 7:23 remaining.

Allison was 12 of 20 for 216 yards and rushed for 56 yards on 6 attempts. Burns caught four passes for 112 yards.

Colton McKnight led the Maples (0-2, 1-4) in rushing with 54 yards on six carries.
