Monessen rallies in 4th quarter for victory over South Side
Monessen turned an 11-point deficit into a 32-17 victory over South Side in nonconference play on Saturday at South Side’s Richard Ashcroft Field.
Dawson Frasier’s one-yard run and Mateja Pavlovhch’s extra point increased the Rams’ advantage to 17-6 in the third quarter before Tavian Taylor raced 82 yards into the end zone for a 17-12 South Side (2-0, 4-1) lead.
Jay’veon Jeffries pulled in a 50-yard touchdown reception from Tyvaughn Kershaw to give the Greyhounds (1-1, 5-1) their first lead at 18-17.
Taylor had a 69-yard interception return for a touchdown and Dennis Hawkins’ two-point conversion reception from Kershaw extended Monessen’s advantage to 26-17.
Jeffries caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from Tim Kershaw in the second quarter.
Frasier threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Corfield in the first quarter and Pavlovhch added a 25-yard field goal in the third.
The Greyhounds return to Class A Black Hills Conference play this Friday at Chartiers-Houston (1-2, 3-3) at 7 p.m.
