Carmichaels slips past Avella

AVELLA – Will Murray ran for a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter and Carmichaels stopped a two-point conversion in the third quarter to upset Avella 14-13 in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game Friday night.

The loss hurts the playoff chances of Avella (3-2, 6-2), which fell into fourth place in the conference. Carmichaels is 1-4, 2-5.

Murray scored on runs of 64 and one yards to give Carmichaels a 14-0 lead. A 13-yard TD pass from Chas Ruish to Bryce Wright late in the first half pulled Avella to within 14-7.

A second Rush TD pass to Wright, this one from 15 yards, made it 14-13, but the two-point conversion failed.

Rush completed 13 of 21 passes for 120 yards. Wright had eight receptions.
