Many happy returns for Monessen in win over Burgettstown
BURGETTSTOWN – A 26-point third quarter and three pick-sixes in the second half propelled Monessen (2-2, 5-3) to a 40-13 win over Burgettstown (0-4, 1-6) Friday night in a Class A Black Hills Conference game at Hill Memorial Stadium.
Kayden Kolbeck caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Kaier Payne to give Monessen the lead in the third quarter.
Then the Greyhounds had a pair of pick-sixes.
Kolbeck returned an interception 69 yards to the end zone and Kezjere Butler had a 45-yard interception return for a score.
Tavian Taylor capped the third quarter with a 25-yard touchdown run.
Daniel Towler returned the third interception for a Monessen touchdown in the fourth from 45-yards.
Monessen’s Michael Hines returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.
Colton County responded with an 8-yard run for Burgettstown and added the extra point. That gave the Blue Devils a 7-6 halftime lead.
