McDONALD – Moon couldn’t stop them, Upper St. Clair came close but failed and West Allegheny was one of four shutout victims.

So this week South Fayette got its chance to beat the top team in the Class 5A Allegheny 6 Conference and the results were not unlike the other teams on Peters Township’s schedule.

Peters Township used a little bit of everything in its arsenal to take a 31-7 victory Friday night at South Fayette Stadium.

The win moves Peters Township to 8-0 overall and 2-1 in the Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference. South Fayette fell to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Nolan DiLucia tossed three touchdown passes, Reston Lehman caught two scoring passes and Lucas Shanafelt returned an interception for a touchdown as PT remained undefeated on the season.

Peters Township showed off all three facets of its game to take a 17-7 lead at halftime lead.

The special teams put Peters Township up 3-0 when Anthony Maiello connected on a 28-yard field goal. Maiello would be perfect on two extra-point attempts.

The passing game showed its stuff with 4:09 left in the half. That was when PT quarterback DiLucia found Lehman for a 21-yard touchdown pass to stretch Peters Township’s lead to 10-0.

Shanafelt stepped in front of a Drew Welhorsky pass and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown. Shanafelt hurdled the final South Fayette tackler to make it 17-0.

South Fayette finally struck when Welhorsky found Alex Deanes for a 65-yard gain to the PT one. South Fayette executed a perfect tush push and Welhorsky covered the final yard to make it a 10-point edge at halftime.
