High school wrestling: Big Macs win match, fall short of Team Tournament
Canon-McMillan’s wrestling team finished the regular season with a 38-26 victory over Peters Township in Class 3A Section 6 action Wednesday night, but the Big Macs lost the tiebreaker to Baldwin and the Indians.
Bethel Park defeated the Highlanders to win the section championship. The Black Hawks, Baldwin and Peters Township have qualified for the WPIAL Team Tournament.
The Big Macs’ Collier Hartman (121), Brayden Collins (215) and Geno Calgaro (285) won by fall.
Andrew Binni (127) won by tech fall and Vincent Binni (139) won by disqualification.
Canon-McMillan needed to win eight matches to earn the tiebreaker but could only earn seven victories.
The Big Macs opted out of the team tournament in 2021 because the COVID-19 pandemic limited the number of teams that could enter. The last time Canon-McMillan didn’t reach the tournament under regular circumstances was 1997.
