Names being put on Pony World Series bracket
The bracket for the Printscape Pony League World Series that will be held Aug. 7-12 at Lew Hays Pony Field in Washington Park is beginning to be filled.
Four teams, including host Washington County, have secured berths in the double-elimination tournament for 13- and 14-year-olds.
Joining Washington County in the field are European Zone winner Paderborn, Germany, Caribbean Zone winner Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and Navojoa, Mexico, the champion of the Mexico Zone.
Washington County, based upon its runner-up finish in 2025, will receive a first-round bye and will play its opening game Saturday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. The opponent will be either Paderborn or the South Zone champion. Those two teams will play in the first game of the world series, on Aug. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
Guaynabo will play in the nightcap on Aug. 7 against the North Zone winner.
Navojoa will play its first game Aug. 8, at 2:30 p.m., against the Host Area tournament winner.
Last year, Chinese Taipei edged Washington County 6-4 in a thrilling championship game. This year’s Asia-Pacific Zone champion has not been announced but it will receive a bye to Aug. 9, when it plays for the first time, against either Novojoa or the Host Area representative.
