Penguins receive 12th pick in NHL draft from Rangers

The New York Rangers sent the 12th pick in the upcoming NHL entry draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, completing a trade that happened in January.
It gives the Penguins the 11th and 12th picks in the draft, which begins Friday.
The pick was involved in a three-team trade between the Rangers, Penguins in Vancouver Canucks. The Penguins sent Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor to Vancouver, J.T. Miller went from Vancouver to the Rangers and the Penguins got Vincent Desharnais, Danton Heinen, prospects and the Rangers’ first round pick.
The pick was lottery protected, so the Rangers had the choice of either giving up the first round pick this year or their 2026 first rounder.
It gives Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas 11 picks in this year’s draft. Six of those picks are in the top 100.
Preseason schedule
The Penguins announced a seven-game preseason schedule Tuesday. Three of those games will be at home.
Pittsburgh opens the preseason in Montreal on September 22 before heading to Columbus on September 24.
The Penguins will play back-to-back home games against Detroit and Columbus September 26 and 27.
A two-game road trip follows against Detroit September 29 and Buffalo October 1.
Their final preseason game is at home against Buffalo on October 3.
