Orioles’ home runs beat Pirates
SARASOTA, Fla. – Taylor Ward and Jose Barrero each hit a three-run homer, Kyle Bradish pitched five shutout innings and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 in a Grapefruit League spring training game Wednesday.
Ward hit his home run off Pittsburgh starter Noah Davis and it gave the Orioles a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning. Barrero’s home run made it 6-0 in the seventh and came off Pirates reliever Jacob Bimbi.
Pittsburgh was held to four hits, including a leadoff homer by Nicholas Cimillo in the ninth inning. It was Cimillo’s second home run of the spring.
Bradish allowed one hit and one walk. He struck out two. The Orioles used only two pitchers. Chris Bassitt followed Bradish on the mound and gave up three hits and two runs over four innings.
Davis allowed three hits and three runs over 4.2 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Davis pitched in five games for the Los Angeles Dodgers and four with the Minnesota Twins last year. He is trying to make the team as a non-roster invitee to spring training.
The Pirates play the Atlanta Braves Thursday evening.
