Wild Things get back on winning track
CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Tyreque Reed drove in three runs and Tommy Caufield hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly as the Wild Things snapped a two-game slide with a 6-4 win over Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday night at Ozinga Field.
Washington maintained its six-game lead over second-place Gateway in the Frontier League’s West Division.
Washington trailed 2-1 before scoring four times in the top of the seventh inning. Robert Chayka had an RBI single that tied the score, and Tommy Caufield lofted a sacrifice fly that brought home Ricardo Sanchez as Washington took a 3-2 lead.
Reed then delivered a two-run single to right field that put the Wild Things ahead 5-2. Reed went 3-for-5.
Washington added an insurance run in the ninth when a Reed double scored Caufield, who had walked.
Windy City’s Tommy Rodriguez hit a two-run homer off Gyeongju Kim in the bottom of the ninth.
Jordan DiValerio (8-2) was the winning pitcher. He scattered seven hits and gave up two runs. He walked one and struck out five.
Windy City scored twice in the fifth against DiValerio on an infield single by Henry Kusiak.
