CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Wagner Lagrange hit a tiebreaking single in the 10th inning and Jalen Miller added a two-run double as the Wild Things defeated Windy City 5-2 Sunday.

Washington swept the three-game series and, with Schaumburg’s loss to Lake Erie, reduced its magic number for making the Frontier League playoffs to 5.

The win also improved Washington’s record in road games to 29-9.

The Wild Things forged an early 2-0 lead. Washington scored two batters into the game as Caleb McNeely hit a leadoff triple and scored when Tommy Caufield flied out. In the second inning, Andrew Czech scored on a passed ball.

Washington starter Zach Kirby surrendered a two-run homer to Windy City’s Reed Chumley in the bottom of the fifth that tied the score at 2-2. Chumley played college ball this spring at West Virginia.

Kirby allowed three hits over six innings.

In the 10th, Lagrange’s single scored McNeely, who was the tiebreaker runner. After Czech walked, Miller hit his two-run double.

Alex Carrillo (2-1) struck out two in the ninth and was the winning pitcher. Gyeongju Kim earned his league-leading 19th save, leaving the bases loaded in the 10th inning.
