Boomers beat Wild Things, boost playoff chances
Brett Milazzo scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning as the Scahumburg Boomers moved a step close to a Frontier League playoff berth with a 3-2 win over the Wild Things on Friday night.
Schaumburg began the night a half-game ahead of Lake Erie for the final wild-card spot in the West Division. Lake Erie won in 10 innings at Joliet to stay a half-game back with two days remaining in the Frontier Legaue’s regular season.
The Boomers improved to 4-0 in games played this season at Wild Things Park.
Washington forged an early 2-0 lead. Andrew Czech had an RBI book-rule double in the first inning and Brandon McIlwain added a solo homer in the second.
Schaumburg tied it at 2-2 in the seventh when Anthony Colaro hit a two-run homer off Washington starter Dariel Fregio. Fregio gave up only four hits and two runs in seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.
In the ninth, with Milazzo on third base and two outs, the Boomers scored on a wild pitch by Washington reliever Alex Carrillo.
Ryan Munzo (4-2) was the losing pitcher.
