Tyreque Reed (31) hit 12 home runs last season and became the first Wild Things player to win the Frontier League batting title.

The Wild Things announced their first signing of a position player for the 2025 Frontier League season Friday and he’s a good starting point.

Washington has re-signed first baseman/designated hitter Tyreque Reed to a contract with a team option for 2026.

Reed (6-1, 250) made a late charge and went 2-for-2 in the final game of the regular season this year to win the league’s batting title. Reed batted .341 and edged Trois-Rivieres’ Rafael Gladu by .00086 of a percentage point for the title. The .341 was the fifth-best single-season batting average in Wild Things history.

Reed is the only player to win a Frontier League batting title while playing for Washington.

The 2024 season was Reed’s first with Washington after playing in the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers farm systems. He reached the Class AA level with Boston in both 2021 and 2022.

A native of Houlka, Miss., – the Frontier League will have a team in Mississippi in 2025 – Reed hit 12 home runs with 52 RBI with the Wild Things despite missing a month of the season with a knee injury.

In the postseason, Reed had two home runs and hit safely in all four games in the league championship series against Quebec.

Reed was named the All-Frontier League designated hitter at season’s end.
