First baseman Andrew Czech will return for his fifth season with the Wild Things one home run shy of the franchise’s career record.

The Wild Things are returning a key hitter in the middle of their lineup as first baseman Andrew Czech has signed for the 2025 Frontier League season, the club announced Tuesday.

The signing came one day after Czech became a free agent. The left-handed hitter will be returning for his fifth season in Washington.

A native of Reminderville, Ohio, Czech batted .264 this past season with 18 home runs, 23 doubles and 48 RBI in 90 games. Czech also walked 68 times and set the Wild Things record with a 60-game on-base streak that included 32 games in 2023 and 28 last season.

Czech will enter 2025 on the verge of several franchise records, the most notable being career home runs. Czech’s 62 home runs is one shy of Hector Roa’s team record. He also ranks second in career walks, third in hits and runs, and fourth in doubles and RBI.

In 2022, Czech was voted to the midseason all-star team, and in 2023 he set the Wild Things’ single-season record for walks with 88.

Last year, Czech’s most memorable play came in a game he didn’t even start. Czech hit a pinch-hit, two-run, walk-off homer that capped a five-run bottom of the ninth inning as Washington defeated Sussex County, 5-4, on Aug. 2 at Wild Things Park.
