The Wild Things added some power and experience to their lineup, announcing Wednesday that they have signed first baseman Andrew Czech to a contract extension for the 2024 Frontier League season.
It will be Czech’s fourth season in Washington and the first three have been productive. Czech ranks in the top 10 of eight offensive categories in Wild Things history. He is second in walks (178) and fourth in home runs (44).
The Reminderville, Ohio, native batted .260 last summer with 21 home runs, 60 RBI and a league-leading and franchise-record 88 walks. He reached safely in each of Washington’s final 32 games. Czech’s .428 on-base percentage ranked ninth in the 16-team league. Czech is a career .279 hitter and his 21 home runs last year set a career-high.
Czech was a midseason all-star in 2022.
The Frontier League will hold its annual open tryout and player draft April 22-23 at Wild Things Park. The Wild Things begin the regular season at home May 10 against the Schaumburg Boomers.
