Wild Things split pair of exhibition games
The Wild Things split a pair of exhibition games against the Lake Erie Crushers over the weekend.
Lake Erie won 6-5 Saturday night in Avon, Ohio. Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter Sunday afternoon as Washington won 5-1 at Wild Things Park.
Starter Jordan DiValerio (three innings) and relievers Malik Barrington (three innings), Zach Kirby (two innings) and Alex Carrillo (one inning) stymied the Lake Erie attack Sunday. The lone Crushers run came in the eighth inning and was unearned because of two Washington errors.
Wild Things pitchers combined to strike out 13. Barrington struck out five of the last six batters he faced.
Carson Clowers and Briley Knight each drove in two runs and Tyreque Reed reached base twice and scored a pair of runs.
All Frontier League teams had to get down to 28 active players by Sunday night. To do so, Washington released outfielder Sheldon Johnson and left-handed pitcher Kenny Williams, placed left-handed pitcher Yeury Gervacio on the paternity list and traded right-handed pitchers Matt Dallas and McLain Harris to Ottawa for future considerations.
