Wild Things add to roster

The Wild Things added two players, one pitcher and one infielder, to their roster for spring training that begins in less than two weeks.
Washington added right-handed pitcher Albert Cuello-Batista, who was born in the Dominican Republic but grew up in New Hampshire, and infielder Jarrett Burney, who was signed out of the California Winter League after winning the batting title in that circuit.
Cuello-Batista pitched in college at Monroe (N.Y.) and Southern New Hampshire, then in the MLB Draft League with Frederick in 2023. He started his pro career last summer, signing with Missoula of the independent Pioneer League and appeared in seven games, pitching in relief.
Burney played four seasons with Rinehardt (Ga.) University, an NAIA program where he had an outstanding career, batting .345 with 36 doubles, 17 home runs, 158 RBI and 82 stolen bases. His best season was in 2024 when he batted .367 with 14 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and stealing 23 bases in 25 attempts.
Burney went undrafted last summer and then played in the Western Canadian Baseball League and was his team’s rookie of the year. This past winter, Burney batted .420 in the California Winter League.
