Wild Things win, draw closer in Central Division
AVON, Ohio – The Wild Things have won all five series since the all-star break. The fifth series win was clinched Saturday night and it tightened the Frontier League’s Central Division standings.
Wagner Lagrange drove in three runs, Eddie Hacopian had four hits and Zach Kirby pitched into the seventh inning as Washington defeated Lake Erie, 6-4.
Lagrange had a two-run single in the first inning and an RBI double in the second as the Wild Things led 5-0 after two innings. Kyle Edwards added an RBI single in the third that made it 6-0.
Kirby (5-4) scattered eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out four. Lake Erie scored twice in the fourth and added two more runs in the seventh.
Washington reliever Sebastian Rodriguez struck out both batters he faced to end the seventh, and Hector Garcia and Andrew Herbert each tossed a scoreless inning to end the game. Herbert picked up his 10th save.
Washington outhit Lake Erie 11-9. The Crushers committed four errors.
Washington’s win pulled the Wild Things to within one game of the first-place Crushers. The teams will play the series finale Sunday afternoon.
