TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec – The Wild Things shook off the effects of a long bus trip to Canada and used two big innings to rout Trois-Rivieres 17-1 in a series opener Tuesday night.

Washington scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second and eight in the fourth to take a commanding 14-1 lead. Washington catcher Three Hillier closed the scoring with a three-run homer – his first professional home run – in the top of the ninth inning. The Wild Things tied its season high with 22 hits, including five by center fielder Ben Watson, who became the 11th player in Washington history with a five-hit game.

Watson, Hillier and Tyreque Reed each drove in three runs. Tommy Caufield had a triple in the first inning and a two-run homer in the second. Caufield and Hillier each scored three times.

Washington starter Jordan Divalerio (9-4) allowed only two hits and one run over 6⅓ innings. He walked one and struck out seven.
