QUEBEC CITY – A six-run bottom of the eighth inning broke open a tie game and helped Quebec finish off a weekend sweep with a 9-6 victory over the Washington Wild Things Sunday at Stade Canac.

The game was tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, but Quebec got the best of Wild Things relievers Andrew Herbert and Chad Coles.

David Mendham gave the Capitales the lead with an RBI double to kick off the big eighth inning. Mendham scored on an error, Jesmuel Valentin had a big two-run single and Kyle Crowl brought home another run with a single.

Washington (47-37) scored three runs in the top of the ninth off a solo-homer by Andrew Czech and a two-run shot by Pavin Parks, but the deficit to North Division leading Quebec (58-36) was too much to overcome.

Herbert (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five runs, four earned, on two hits, two walks and a strikeout in an inning-plus.

Conner Floyd (1-0) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless eighth for the Capitales.

Three Hillier had an RBI single that gave Washington a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Crowl tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Parks hit a sac fly to center field to put Washington in front, 2-1, in the top of the fifth, but Quebec scored two in the bottom half.

Wagner Lagrange smacked an RBI double down the left field line, which tied it 3-3 in the seventh.

Washington returns to EQT Park for a week-long homestand beginning with a three-game set with Evansville that starts Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
