Wild Things get back on winning track, rout Mud Monsters
Ben Watson drove in three runs, Pavin Parks scored four times and the Wild Things got back on the winning track Friday night by defeating the Mississippi Mud Monsters 14-2 at EQT Park.
Washington ended a seven-game losing streak and moved closer to clinching a Frontier League playoff berth, dropping its magic number to five.
The Wild Things had four multi-run innings, which was more than enough offensive support for starter Sebatian Rodriguez (4-2) and two relievers. Rodriguez allowed two unearned runs over seven innings. He gave up only three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Washington built a 4-0 lead after three innings but Mississippi scored twice in the fifth to cut the Wild Things’ lead in half.
Washington scored four times in the sixth, twice in the seventh and added four more runs in the eighth.
Parks went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Watson was 3-for-5 and scored twice. The Wild Things took advantage of eight walks by Mississippi pitchers.
