JOLIET, ILL. – Tiebreaker runner Ian Battapaglia scored from second base on a Bryant Flete single in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Joliet Slammers a 7-6 come-from-behind win over the Wild Things in a series opener Tuesday night.

Washington had a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Frontier League’s Central Division after Lake Erie lost 7-3 at home to Down East. Washington, however, led 3-0 early and 6-5 in the seventh inning but couldn’t protect either advantage.

Joliet scored five times in the third inning against Washington starter Dylan Kirkeby to take a 5-3 lead. Washington answered with a Ben Watson home run in the fifth inning and scored two runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. Pavin Parks and Ethan Wilder each had a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Joliet tied it in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Antonio Valdez.

Washington stranded runners on second and third in the 10th inning.
