JOLIET, Ill. – Sebastian Rordiguez and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout, Ben Watson had a two-run single and the playoff-bound Wild Things blanked the Joliet Slammers 4-0 Thursday night.

Rodriguez (5-2) allowed only three hits and one walk over six innings. At one stretch, he retired 11 consecutive Joleit hitters. Chad Coles pitched two innings with three strikeouts and Hector Garcia tossed the ninth inning to secure Washington’s third shutout of the season.

It was the final road game of the regular season and Washington finished with a 24-24 record away from EQT Park.

The Wild Things did not gain ground on Central Division leader Lake Erie, which was an 8-2 winner over Down East. Washington remains one game behind the Crushers in the division standings.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Eddie Hacopian. It remained 1-0 until Watson smacked a bases-loaded two-run single in the seventh inning.

In the top of the ninth, Cole Folwer hit a solo homer to right centerfield to add an insurance run and make the score 4-0. It was Fowler’s fourth home run of the season.

Joliet starter Ryan Daly gave up only three hits over 6⅔ innings.

Washington closes the regular season with a series at home against Down East Friday night.
