The Wild Things will have a new pitching coach in 2026.

The Frontier League team announced Wednesday that they have hired Josh Flowerman to fill the role.

The Wild Things had a pair of pitching coaches last year. Hector Nelo began the season in the role, but he and the Wild Things parted ways early in the year. Lukas Young, a former closer for Washington, was then hired as the pitching coach for the remainder of the season.

Flowerman is not a stranger to the Frontier League. He served as the bullpen coach, assistant pitching coach and analyst last season for the Tri-City ValleyCats, who were a playoff team a year ago.

“We’re happy to bring Josh on board for the 2026 season,” Wild Things manager Tom Vaeth said. “We are confident that his approach to pitcher development, preparation and performance will have an immediate and lasting impact on our team.”

Flowerman has a unique background. He has a degree in journalism from Ithaca College, a Master of Science in Analytics from Villanova and a certificate in problem-solving and machine learning and analytics from Cornell.

Among other positions in baseball, Flowerman has worked as a media relations assistant and radio broadcaster at the minor-league level and was an intern with the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers. Flowerman was pitching coach for Frederick of the MLB Draft League in 2024.
