The Wild Things have added a rookie pitcher who has a track record of winning games.

Washington announced Monday the signing of righthander Hector Garcia Jr., for the 2025 Frontier League season. Garcia last played in 2023 in the Minnesota Twins farm system.

Garcia played college baseball at Hope International, an NAIA school in Fullerton, Calif. In four seasons with the Royals, Garcia had an 18-1 record and five saves in 46 games (24 starts).

Garcia had his best season as a junior in 2022, when he was 11-1 with a 3.28 ERA and struck out 111 batters in 74 innings, allowing only 41 hits and 26 walks.

In his senior season of 2023, Garcia, a native Californian, was 4-0 in 11 starts and struck out 93 in 56.1 innings. He pitched in six games in the Cape Cod League that summer and was drafted by the Twins in the 18th round.

Garcia pitched in two games for the Twins’ rookie level team in August of 2023, but sat out the entire 2024 season with an injury and was released in September.

The 23-year-old Garcia will be classified as a Pro-1 by the Frontier League. Pro-1 is the classification of players ages 24 or younger. Each Frontier League team must have 10 players who are classified as either Pro-1 or Pro-2 (25 or younger).
