Evansville hits 7 home runs in 15-12 win over Wild Things
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Dennis Pierce hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, giving Evansville a 15-12 victory over the Wild Things on Wednesday night in a bizarre game at Bosse Field.
Evansville hit seven home runs – the most Washington has ever allowed in a game – and scored all 15 of their runs on round-trippers. Graham Brown hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and J.T. Benson, L.J. Jones, Keenan Taylor and J.J. Cruz each added a home run. Pierce went 4-for-5.
The Otters led 6-2 after two innings before Washington scored eight times in the top of the third. Evansville scored five runs in the bottom of the third and led 11-10.
Washington went on top, 12-11, in the fourth on a long two-run homer by Tyreque Reed. Evansville tied it at 12-12 in the fourth on a solo homer by Jones.
Washington was held to two hits over the final five innings.
Pierce hit his three-run homer off Washington reliever Chad Coles (1-1).
Casey Delgado (1-0) pitched one inning for the win. Alex Valdez got the final three outs for a save.
Ethan Wilder hit his first home run of the season and Kadon Morton homered during the Wild Things’ eight-run third inning. Jeff Liquori went 3-for-5.
One night after striking out a season-high 14 times, Washington hitters fanned 12 more times, 11 coming against Evansville relief pitchers.
The Wild Things and Otters will play a doubleheader Thursday.
