Wild Things’ 11 runs not nearly enough
FLORENCE, Ky. – The Wild Things scored 11 runs Saturday night at Florence.
That wasn’t nearly enough to win the game.
Florence scored nine runs in the first inning and went on to beat Washington, 18-11.
The Wild Things scored five runs in the top of the first inning, which included a leadoff home run by Robert Chayka.
Florence, however, scored nine times in the bottom of the first inning against Luke McCollough (0-1), who was signed earlier in the day. The rookie out of Villanova was making his professional debut and gave up 16 runs (all earned) and five home runs in 3⅓ innings.
Florence led 16-5 after four innings. Washington managed to close to within 16-11 by scoring six times in the fifth inning but that is as close as it would get.
Wagner Lagrange went 4-for-5 and Tommy Caufield stole three bases for the Wild Things.
Florence’s Heladio Moreno, the No. 9 hitter in the lineup, had a three-run homer and five RBI.
