Wild Things win at Schaumburg
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Seven different Washington players drove in a run and Christian Diaz pitched three scoreless innings of relief as the Wild Things defeated Schaumburg 10-5 Friday night at Wintrust Field.
Washington twice wiped out early two-run deficits and took the lead for good at 5-4 in the fifth inning when Kadon Morton scored on a wild pitch.
Robert Chayka had three hits and scored two runs. Ethan Wilder drove in a pair.
Prior to the game, Washington signed starting pitcher Sebastian Rodriguez, a former Point Park standout who was the Rookie Pitcher of the Year in the American Association last year. Rodriguez had a shaky Wild Things debut as he gave up four hits and four runs over three innings. He walked five and struck out two.
Diaz (1-0) followed with his three scoreless innings. Washington used four relievers.
Washington played without the services of manager Tom Vaeth, who began serving a three-game suspension after being ejected Thursday at Lake Erie. It was Vaeth’s fourth ejection of the season, which carries an automatic suspension.
