Reed hits two home runs in Wild Things victory over Schaumburg
Schaumburg, Ill. – Tyreque Reed finished at triple shy of the cycle and hit a pair of home runs to punctuate a big day for the Washington Wild Things’ offense in a 9-3 victory over Schaumburg Sunday afternoon.
The Wild Things (26-19) had 15 hits and took the series against the Boomers (27-18). They lead the Central Division by three-and-a-half games over Lake Erie.
Reed had an RBI single in the first inning, hit a three-run homer in the second, belted a solo blast in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and had five RBI. He has 10 homers on the season and a team best 44 RBI.
The Wild Things broke the game open in the second by scoring five runs. Tommy Caufield hit an RBI single, Reed had his three-run homer and Andrew Czech followed with a solo shot.
Ethan Wilder added an RBI single in the sixth and Caufield plated another run with a single in the seventh.
Jordan DiValerio (5-2) pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits to pick up the win. He had two walks and two strikeouts.
Schaumburg starter Derek Salata (3-4) was tagged for seven runs, six earned, over four innings.
Hector Garcia struck out the side in order in the eighth and Andrew Herbert pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
Washington is 8-1 on Sunday games this year.
The Wild Things continue their road trip Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series at Gateway. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
