Wild Things sign former Ivy League standout
With returning players Andrew Czech, Tyreque Reed, Ethan Wilder and Tommy Caufield already signed for 2025, the Wild Things will have an experienced group of infielders to play on the new synthetic turf at Wild Things Park. They added another such player Tuesday when they announced that Andy Blake, a 24-year-old infielder has signed with the Frontier League team.
Blake (6-4, 200), a native of New Jersey, spent two years in the Los Angeles Angels farm system and brings versatility to Washington. He has played all four infield positions as a professional.
A right-handed hitter, Blake played his college baseball in the Ivy League for Columbia and was the conference’s player of the year in 2023. As a shortstop, he led the Ivy league in seven offensive categories that year, including batting average (.366), and set the Ivy League single-season record with 75 hits.
Blake signed with the Angels in 2023 and in his two years in the organization played in 91 games in Class A and AAA. He hit two home runs for Salt Lake, the Angels’ Class AAA affiliate, while playing in 13 games.
After being released by the Angels, Blake played for Trenton in the MLB Draft League last summer and hit .253 with seven extra-base hits in 25 games.
The Wild Things also announced they have traded utility player Daniel Harris to the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League. Harris signed with Washington prior to the 2024 season but a shoulder injury sidelined him the entire season. Washington will get a player to be named in exchange for Harris.
