Wild Things sign former 2nd-round draft pick

The Wild Things have added an athletic middle infielder with a high upside to their roster for the 2025 Frontier League season.
Washington has signed shortstop Sammy Infante, a former second-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals.
Infante (6-1, 185), from Hialeah, Fla., was the 71st overall pick in the 2020 major league draft out of Monsignor Pace High School. Washington signed Infante after he had committed to play college baseball at Miami, Fla. He was the first player from south Florida to be drafted that year.
Infante played four seasons and 273 games in the Nationals’ farm system. He played the majority of those games at third base but is seen as a shortstop with the Wild Things.
The best season in the minor leagues for Infante was 2022, when he hit 19 doubles and 17 home runs, and stole 15 bases, for Fredericksburg of the Class A Carolina League. In 2023, he batted .243 in 74 games for Fredericksburg, and last summer played for two Class A teams in the Nationals’ system.
The Frontier League will hold its annual open tryout and player draft April 22-23 in Crestwood, Ill. Spring training for teams will begin after the tryout. The Wild Things open the season May 9 at Windy City and will play their home opener May 13 against Ottawa.
