Offensive breakout leads Wild Things to 1st win
CRESTWOOD, ILL. – After being shut out on Saturday, the Washington Wild Things responded with a big day at the plate and secured their first win of the season, 10-2, at Windy City Sunday.
Washington (1-2) recorded 10 hits, including a 4-for-4 day from shortstop Ethan Wilder.
The Wild Things scored two batters into the game. Caleb McNeely hit a lead-off double, stole third and came into score on an RBI single by Jeff Liquori.
The game was tied 2-2 after four innings, but the Wild Things pulled ahead in the fifth when Liquori scored from third on a wild pitch.
Washington scored seven runs over the final three innings, including four in the ninth, to put the game away.
Wilder had an RBI single in the seventh and Brett Roberts drew a bases loaded walk.
Washington took advantage of some wildness from Windy City relievers Ronny Domingez and Daniel Brown in the ninth.
Roberts was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Willie Estrada, Liquori and Andrew Czech walked with the bases loaded.
Marlon Perez started for Washington and held Windy City (2-2) to two runs in four innings pitched. Jake Carroll earned the win, with three scoreless innings or relief.
The Wild Things’ home opener is 7 p.m. Tuesday against the Ottawa Titans.
