Home runs power Y’alls over Wild Things
FLORENCE, Ky. – Rookie infielder Eddie Javier Jr., who played his final two years of college baseball in Pittsburgh at Point Park, hit two of Florence’s three home runs, powering the Y’alls to a 10-7 series-opening victory over the Wild Things on Friday night.
The loss snapped Washington’s four-game winning streak.
Michael Quinones and Javier hit back-to-back homers in Florence’s four-run fourth inning that gave the Y’alls a 5-2 lead.
Javier added a three-run homer in a five-run fifth that stretched Florence’s lead to 10-5.
Washington closed to within 10-7 in the eighth on Andrew Czech’s two-run homer. It was Czech’s third homer in two games.
Tyreque Reed also homered for Washington.
Wild Things starter Ivan Ovideo (0-2) was charged with eight earned runs in four innings.
The start of the game, that was Florence’s home opener, was moved up an hour to avoid a potential thunderstorm.
