Liquori sets Wild Things single game RBI record in win over Florence
FLORENCE, Ky. – Jeff Liquori certainly had a game to remember Sunday.
Not only did he hit his first professional home run, a grand slam, he set the Washington Wild Things single game RBI record by driving in seven runs in a 19-9 win at Florence.
The victory secured the series for the Wild Things (6-3) after an 8-4 win Saturday.
Liquori’s grand slam came in the sixth inning and was part of a 22-hit day for the Wild Things.
Washington plated the first 12 runs of the game in the first three innings to set the tone for a game that became a slugfest.
Andrew Czech had an RBI single in the first, then Washington scored six times in the second.
Caleb McNeely was hit by a pitch with the bases full to go along with a two-run single by Jeff Liquori, a two-run double by Tyreque Reed and an RBI single by Ethan Wilder.
Tyreque Reed hit a three-run homer in third, Liquori bounced a fielder’s choice for an RBI and Jommer Hernandez singled home a run.
Seven Wild Things players had multi-hit games led by Liquori, who had four.
Oddly enough, Liquori’s seven RBI weren’t the most in the game.
Stephen Hrustich hit three home runs for Florence (2-5) and drove in eight of its nine runs.
Jordan DiValerio got the win for Washington, allowing four runs over 6 1/3rds innings to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Washington continues its road trip Tuesday against Joliet. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
