JOLIET, Ill. – Brett Roberts hit a grand slam during Washington’s seven-run seventh inning as the Wild Things routed Joliet 13-2 Wednesday night.

Washington broke a 2-2 tie by scoring three times in the top of the sixth, then sealed the win an inning later.

Washington had 16 hits on the night, none bigger than Roberts’ blast. Jeff Liquiori had four hits, including a double. Robert Chayka scored three runs. Every Wild Things starter had at least one hit and scored at least one run.

Zach Kirby (1-0) pitched the first five innings for the win. Three Washington relief pitchers held Joliet to two hits over the final four innings.
