Wild Things shut out on 1 hit
JOLIET, Ill. – One night after generating 13 runs on 16 hits, the Wild Things barely had any offense at all against Joliet left-hander Gunner Kines.
Kines tossed a one-hit shutout, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning, as Joliet defeated the Wild Things 3-0 Thursday night.
Joliet won two of the three games in the series.
Kines (3-0) struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Washington had only two baserunners. The first came in the seventh inning when Jeff Liquori was hit by a pitch. Kines had a no-hitter until Ethan Wilder laced a single through the left side of the infield with two outs in the eighth inning.
Joliet scored two runs in the first inning against Washington starter Ivan Oviedo (0-3). Oviedo gave up seven hits and two runs over four innings. He walked one and did not record a strikeout.
The Slammers added an insurance run, which was unearned, in the fifth.
