Wild Things win with home runs
AVON, OHIO – Tyreque Reed hit two of Washington’s three home runs and the Wild Things’ bullpen did its job in a 6-5 victory over Lake Erie in a series finale Thursday night.
Washington, which won a game in the Frontier League’s sudden-death format on Wednesday, took two of the three in the series and moved into a first-place tie with the Crushers in the Central Division.
Reed hit a pair of two-run homers in his first two at-bats. The first gave Washington a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After Lake Erie scored three runs in the bottom of the first, Reed homered again in the third to give the Wild Things a 4-3 lead.
Washington pushed its lead to 5-3 before Lake Erie scored twice in the fourth to tie the score.
The Wild Things went ahead for good in the fifth when Andrew Czech hit a solo home run.
Washington starter Zach Kirby (2-0) and relievers Chad Coles and Hector Garcia combined to allow only one Lake Erie baserunner after the fourth inning. Garcia pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
