With the Frontier League season opener exactly one month away, the Wild Things have been busy putting together their roster, even during the recent holiday.

Washington made two trades over weekend, and on Monday announced the signing of a player, as it readies for the upcoming Frontier League tryout camp and draft ahead of spring training.

The Wild Things traded a pair of pitchers – one starter and one reliever – including one who was on the active roster for last year’s playoffs.

Washington dealt reliever Christian Diaz to the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League, and left-handed starter Dominic Puccetti to the Frontier League’s Ottawa Titans. Washington will receive future considerations from Ogden and Ottawa. Puccetti has been signed by Ottawa.

Last year, Puccetti had a 2-5 record and 5.00 ERA in nine starts after being signed by Washington out of Division II Lander University, for whom he went 10-1 last spring. Puccetti was placed on the inactive list late in the season.

Diaz also was a rookie last year. He appeared in 20 games (one start) and had a 1-1 record and 4.08 ERA. He was on the active roster during last season’s playoffs.

Washington signed a former Los Angeles Angels draft pick, utilityman Caleb Ketchup.

Ketchup was the Angels’ 15th-round draft pick in 2023 out of Lipscomb University in Nashville. He played last year for two Class A teams and in 38 games for the Angels’ Class AA affiliate Rock City. Overall, he batted .211 with seven doubles and five home runs. He also stole 20 bases in 23 attempts.

In his final year at Lipscomb, Ketchup smacked 17 home runs and swiped 31 bases. He was a shortstop at Lipscomb but played six different positions in the Angels’ system.

Stadium seat shipping

The Wild Things announced that because of larger than expected interest from outside the local area in the lower-level stadium seats that are being sold, shipping is now an option. Seats can now be shipped for $40. Fans who purchased seats but did not have shipping as an option can email their request to mech@washingtonwildthings.com. They will receive a link to complete the additional payment.
