Wild Things hold on, win at Mississippi
PEARL, Miss – The Wild Things entered the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday night at Mississippi with starting pitcher Drew Stegura throwing a no-hitter and holding a 10-run lead.
Washington, in the end, had to hold on and bring in their closer to get the game’s final out.
The Wild Things held on for a 12-9 victory.
Stegura (2-0) did not allow a hit until a leadoff single up the middle in the seventh. The rookie out of Belmont Abbey gave up two hits, two runs and two walks in six-plus innings. Three Washington relief pitchers were touched up for seven runs over 2⅔ innings. Ginn was brought in with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and threw two pitches to get the final out and his 12th save.
Washington, which reduced its magic number for making the Frontier League playoffs to 8, forged its big lead as Kyle Edwards went 4-for-4, Andrew Czech drove in three runs and Anthony Brocato hit his league-leading 25th home run. Antonio Monroy drove in two runs.
