Wild Things’ Czech is FL Player of Week
The Wild Things have another weekly award winner as Andrew Czech was named the Frontier League Player of the Week on Monday following a strong six days in Mississippi.
Czech went 12-for-22 with two doubles, two home runs, eight runs and 12 RBI. He also walked eight times, allowing him to sport a .545 batting average and .667 on-base percentage for the week. The week was capped by a two home-run game Sunday night, when he drove in five runs.
In 82 games, Czech is batting .336 and has a .486 on-base percentage, which is best in the league. He is tied for the league lead in doubles (27) and second in home runs (23), RBI (92), walks (79) and slugging percentage (.694).
Czech and his teammates enter the final 18 games of the regular season with a five-game lead in the Central Division and have a playoff magic number of six. The Wild Things begin a key three-game series against Evansville tonight (7:05) at EQT Park. Evansville is the second-place team in the Central.
Monday was the Frontier League transactions deadline and the Wild Things made one move, signing outfielder Miles Simington.
Simington played 87 games in the Mexican League this year, hitting .228 with four home runs and 22 stolen bases.
