Simington drives in 3 as Wild Things win series opener
JOLIET, Ill. – Miles Simington drove in three runs, Anthony Brocato hit his league-leading 27th home run and the Wild Things defeated Joliet 9-4 Friday night in a series opener.
Following a rain delay that pushed back the start of the game, Washington scored in three of the first four innings to forge a 5-0 lead against Joliet starter Gunnar Kines (8-5).
Joliet did all of its scoring in the sixth inning to chase Washington starter Jack Brodsky (5-2) and close to within 5-4. Brodsky gave up four hits and four runs (three earned) in five-plus innings. He walked two and struck out three.
Michael O’Hanlon pitched two scoreless innings in relief and was followed by Eldridge Armstrong II and Colt Anderson. The trio combined for four shutout innings.
The Wild Things secured the win by scoring four runs in the eighth inning. Simington had a two-run single.
Washington’s Kyle Edwards had a three-hit game and Connor Peek drove in a pair of runs.
The Wild Things dropped their magic number for clinching a playoff berth to four games. Washington leads the Frontier League’s Central Division by four games over second-place Evansville with 14 remaining.
