Wild Things blank Florence
FLORENCE, Ky. – It had been awhile since Kobe Foster had pitched for the Wild Things, but the lefthander showed Friday that he’s tough to hit on 13 days of rest.
Foster threw seven shutout innings and combined with reliever Michael O’Hanlon on a two-hit shutout as the Wild Things defeated Florence 6-0 in a series opener Friday night at Thomas More Stadium.
Foster (10-3), who had not pitched since Aug. 15 at Mississippi, allowed only two hits over seven innings. He walked three and struck out six.
The Wild Things scored a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Andrew Czech. Connor Peek and Caleb Ketchup drove home runs in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Miles Simington launched a home run in the seventh to push Washington’s lead to 4-0 and the Wild Things added two in the eighth on RBI singles by Cole Fowler and Peek.
The Wild Things dropped their magic number for clinching the Central Division title to 6. Second-place Evansville defeated Lake Erie 7-2. The Wild Things lead the Otters by three games with eight remaining in the regular season.
